Hamilton Code Club: Connecting to our community

15 January 2017

We are proud to be part of an incredible community partnership that brings coding into Hamilton schools.

Hamilton Code Club is a program by the Industry-Education Council of Hamilton, and sponsored through the ABACUS grant – a program through the Hamilton Community Foundation.

The Hamilton Code Club gives middle school students in the Greater Hamilton area the chance to try computer programming in an inclusive, fun setting. The current program involves volunteer mentors visiting area schools for six weeks, to introduce beginner coding tools like Scratch and Hopscotch to students, and teach them how to build simple games and applications using the tools.

We are very proud to support the mentorship commitment of one of our software developers, Michael Samborski, who has been working weekly with grade 5 and 6 students at St. Michael’s School in Hamilton on the MIT developed Scratch Program. This initiative is a great opportunity for young boys and girls to be exposed to critical skills at an early age and one that can help their long term development. The clubs have been great success and we look forward to offering Michael continued support in his commitment to this wonderful program.

See more great work by the Hamilton Code Club.
